Construction industry in South West reaches 6-year high
The housebuilding sector in the South West has reached its fastest rate of growth in six years, the latest construction market survey has revealed.
According to an article on this topic in the local business media, the market survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, eported that the region’s workloads in the third quarter of 2013 increased at their strongest rate since the winter of 2007 with a positive net balance of 14 per cent.
A positive net balance of 67 per cent also predicted more jobs would be created across the sector over the next year, but, unfortunately, more respondents also noted that a growing number of job applicants lacked the necessary skills for their chosen roles.
Simon Rubinsohn, chief economist at the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, said: "While it’s certainly good news that construction – and especially housebuilding – is finally on the rise right across the UK, we are certainly not out of the woods yet.
"Critically, we’re still way behind in terms of building enough homes to meet the nation’s growing housing need and overall construction projects are at a historical low."
