60 jobs saved as Duchy Timber sold out of administration

Duchy Timber, a timber merchant with operations in Cornwall, Torbay and Devon has been sold out of administration in a move that saves 60 jobs, a news report in the local business media has revealed.

The Duchy Timber sawmill was established as part of the Duchy of Cornwall Estate at Lostwithiel, Cornwall in 1958, and later moved into private ownership. Besides the sawmill, the site now also has timber-drying kilns, machining facilities and a pressure treatment plant.

The company has retail outlets in Ottery St Mary, Devon and Torquay, Torbay, that supply a variety of domestic customers, independent tradesmen and large construction companies across the South West and beyond.

The company had 60 members of staff, all of whom were transferred to the new owner, Kernow Timber.
