Up to 1,000 new jobs could be created as part of Forest of Dean redevelopment scheme

A £100m regeneration scheme targeting a former Forest of Dean mining area could potentially unlock massive investment and create about 1,000 jobs in the area, a recent news report in the local business media was able to reveal.

Forest of Dean District Council’s approval of the Homes and Communities Agency’s (HCA) application to build an access road, business space and a college facility is likely to bring about a “massive boost” for the region, the project’s supporters believe.

An outline planning application for a new hotel, employment and business space, a visitor information point and up to 195 houses was also approved as part of the application.

David Warburton, HCA head of area, said: "This decision will help to bring huge benefits to the Forest of Dean for generations to come and is a massive boost for the area."

The HCA has started its search for a development partner to lead the construction of the new access road. Once an appointment is made construction work will start next year.
