Plans for new residential development in South Gloucestershire to get green light
Plans put forward by developer Taylor Wimpey for a large residential-led scheme in South Gloucestershire are set to be approved by the local authorities, a local news source was able to reveal.
The company wants to build 550 houses on a 37-acre site in Stoke Gifford. Planners at South Gloucestershire Council have recommended the project be approved, subject to certain conditions.
The land bounded by Coldharbour Lane is owned by the Wallscourt Foundation, a charity that acts in support of the University of the West of England, and the majority of the site has been allocated for redevelopment in the 2006 South Gloucestershire Local Plan.
Taylor Wimpey is seeking outline planning for the full 550 units and full planning for phase one of the development, consisting of 279 houses plus retail and leisure space. A separate application is under consideration by Bristol City Council for open space at the southern end of the site.
Of the proposed properties for the first phase, 98 of them will be classed as affordable housing.
However, a string of conditions have been attached, including a financial contribution of £1.9m towards primary school places and cash for community facilities.
