South West construction sector could see up to 6,000 new jobs created each year


Up to 6,000 new jobs could be created in the South West construction sector each year until 2019, the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) has recently forecast.

The annual Construction Skills Network report said with growth expected to be 3.6 per cent from 2014 to 2019, a total of 6,320 new jobs each year could be generated.

Roger Stone, CITB sector strategy manager for the South West, said: "This report is terrific news for the region and shows the construction industry is making a strong comeback."

Large construction projects in the South West include the start of work on Hinckley Point C in Somerset, the redevelopment of the Filton Airfield site adjacent to Cribbs Causeway and the on-going £150m revamp of Bristol Airport.
