Plans to build 100 student flats in Bristol listed building set for approval

Two grade II-listed property located at 37-39 and 41 Corn Street in Bristol are set to be transformed into 100 student flats under plans set to be approved by the Bristol City Council, a recent news report has been able to reveal.

The buildings, which were originally designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, who worked on Liverpool Cathedral, Waterloo Bridge and Battersea Power Station as well as designing the red telephone box, were built in the 1930 and is currently the office of the Friends Provident life insurance company.

The proposals cover the change of use of the upper floors of both buildings to provide a total of 100 student flats.

The application also includes extensive refurbishment work to the two buildings, including a new façade for 41 Corn Street, and new internal doors connecting the properties.

An existing restaurant unit on the ground floor will be retained with a reduced floor area.
