Plans approved for new residential development near Weston-super-Mare

Plans for building 41 new homes on a development near Weston-super-Mare are set to receive the green light after council officers recommended its approval, a recent news report in the local media has been able to suggest.

The application, by Bristol-based Edward Ware Homes and a J Burdge, is seeking outline permission to develop about 4.8 acress of undeveloped land in Churchill.

The site is 400m north of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and sits on the A38.

As part of the development, 30 per cent of the properties will be designated affordable, or 12 properties in total.

There will also be a contribution of £20,000 towards costs of securing a 30mph speed limit on the A38 by the site.

According to the application: "An indicative layout plan has been submitted to demonstrate how the site could accommodate the number of dwellings proposed including a mix of two, three, four and five bed open market and affordable dwellings."

"Churchill is a Service Village and has a reasonable range of services, facilities and transport links that serve the settlement and there are not considered to be unacceptable impacts on either the highway network or other local infrastructure.

"The location of the site in relation to these services and facilities does not preclude active travel modes and provides for adequate pedestrian routes to facilities within the settlement within reasonable walking distance.

"The erection of up to 41 dwellings will not unacceptably harm the character of the area or the living conditions of neighbours and will provide a satisfactory standard of accommodation."
