Gloucester City Council plans to unlock social housebuilding in the city


A City Council has revealed plans to implement a series of measures designed to help it start building new social homes in the area for the first time in the past 25 years.

Gloucester City Council plans to transfer its 4,800 homes to housing association Gloucester City Homes (currently in charge of their management), in return for the government wiping out £50m of historic housing debt, a news report in the local media revealed.

WE LEP ‘strategic economic plan’ aims to create 25,500 new jobs


A new business development master plan could see up to 25,500 new jobs being created across the South West of England, the organization supporting this ambitious enterprise has claimed.

The West of England Local Enterprise Partnership (WE LEP) developed its ‘strategic economic plan’ in collaboration with its network of 800 businesses, four unitary authorities, five further education colleges and four universities, a news source can reveal.

Taunton Deane Borough Council has decided to join forces with Knightstone Housing Association for the development of 87 homes and community facilities in Somerset, a news report in the local business media has recently revealed.

Under the existing development plans, he local authority would retain part of the site in order to construct 57 new homes. It would transfer the remainder of the site to Knightstone to deliver a further 30 properties.

Up to 90 jobs at risk at Bournemouth retirement home developer


Bournemouth-headquartered retirement home developer McCarthy & Stone is undergoing a full organisational review that could put up to 90 jobs in jeopardy, a news report in the local business media has revealed.

The company said it was instigating the review with the goal of creating a more profitable, scalable and effective business, with changes expected to impact a number of individual roles, primarily in its head office, and a more limited number across the company’s five regional offices.

41 jobs salvaged as barrier company is bought out of administration


A total of forty-one jobs have been saved as Bristol-based Avon Barrier Company was bought out of administration, a news report in the local business media has revealed.

The company, a manufacturer of security barriers, road blockers, gates and bollards, collapsed back on 7 February 2014, with administrators from Deloitte being appointed in order to sort out its finances.
