100 affordable homes completed in West Somerset, with more than 73 on the way

A local council has revealed that more than 100 affordable homes have been completed in the area over the past 12 months, including here supported housing units, low-cost home-ownership properties and general-needs family accommodation buildings.

The West Somerset Council also announced that successful schemes include Chadwyck Close in Porlock (15 affordable homes completed), the Beach Hotel in Minehead, Brackensfield in Alcombe (15 properties completed with a further 18 to follow by July 2014) and Higil Lea in Crowcombe (five affordable homes completed), according to a news report in the local business media.

Keith Turner, housing portfolio holder at West Somerset Council, said: "I am delighted we have been able to facilitate the provision of so many much-needed homes and I am looking forward to more success in the year ahead."

More than 73 additional affordable homes are set to be completed over the next year, and the local authority also suggested that negotiations are at a ‘relatively advanced stage’ on half a dozen more sites, which could lead to delivery of a further 53 affordable homes in 2015 and beyond.
