Bristol mayor presents plans for £91m indoor arena

Bristol mayor George Ferguson has presented his future plans for investing in the city’s development, with one of the most ambitious parts of this project being the development of a new indoor arena worth 91 million pounds.

According to a news report in the local media, the arena will have a 12,000 seat capacity and will be built on the former Diesel Depot site next to Bristol Temple Meads station, which would be opened in 2017. The arena would cost the council £1m in 2014/15, £25m in 2015/16 and £65m in 2016/17, although the majority of the funding would come via the City Deal agreement announced earlier this month.

The mayor’s plans are set to go before the Bristol City Council next week. Should they get the green light, the search for contractors will follow shortly.
