Confectionery company to build new £500,000 factory in Cornwall

A confectionery company specializing in fudge making has revealed plans to build a new factory worth an estimated half a million pounds at a site in Cornwall after securing the required funding from NatWest.

The Buttermilk Confectionary Co is currently based in Wadebridge but plans to move its manufacturing facilities to new premises in Bodmin by January 2015 and expects output to increase by 50 per cent.

David Goad, owner, commented on the announcement: "We’re producing six and a half tonnes of fudge every week in our current factory but, with space for extra machinery, the move to Bodmin means we can increase this to ten tonnes.

"We’re passionate about what we do and it’s important for us to grow whilst maintaining our heritage and our connection to local suppliers. Our new premises are just eight miles from where we are now so it means we can continue to do this."

The Buttermilk Confectionary Co currently employs 20 staff but hopes to create four additional jobs following the move.
