Gloucester City Council plans to unlock social housebuilding in the city

A City Council has revealed plans to implement a series of measures designed to help it start building new social homes in the area for the first time in the past 25 years.

Gloucester City Council plans to transfer its 4,800 homes to housing association Gloucester City Homes (currently in charge of their management), in return for the government wiping out £50m of historic housing debt, a news report in the local media revealed.

The council managed to reach an agreement with housing minister Kris Hopkins, who commented: "I’m pleased to be signing this deal with Gloucester City Council, which could lead to the first new social homes in the city for 25 years, and lead to as much as £30m additional investment in existing stock over the next ten years."
