Plans approved for job-creating energy park in Somerset
Plans for a 635-acre energy park that could support the creation of more than 4,400 jobs and generate £125m of business rates have been approved by the local authorities, a news report in the local media has been able to reveal.
Planning consent has been granted for Somerset’s 635-acre Huntspill Energy Park site, which was recently acquired by Salamanca Group from BAE Systems, to enable its redevelopment.
BAE originally submitted an application in April 2013 for the energy park, including the development of 235 acres of energy related employment uses, new footpath and cycle routes, public open space and a ‘green’ bridge.
Sedgemoor District Council resolved to grant consent later that year, subject to the signing of a section 106 agreement.
The site, currently known as Huntspill Energy Park, was acquired earlier this month by London-based Salamanca Group from BAE.
It is set to be redeveloped over the coming years with a focus on energy related uses. A low-carbon, on-site energy generation facility will provide energy to tenants, which are expected to centre on activities such as manufacturing, logistics and other industry and business.
Developments of this size are likely to involve numerous contractors working on the site, so companies that decide to get involved should also consider the implementation of a solid and reliable workforce management system, and this is exactly where Time & Attendance South West can help.
